How Organ Donation Works
Organ transplantation is one of the great advances in modern science. Organ donation is a process in which a person willingly donate or transplant their organs to another person. The person who donate the organ is termed as “the donor“ and the person who got the organ is termed as “the recipient “. It is necessary because the recipient’s organ has failed or has been damaged by the accident or disease or injury. People usually assume that one has to die or they can only donate their organs after their death but you can also make a difference as living donors by donating your tissues, skin or cells. These days one of the most demanding organ is kidney. There are many recipients waiting in line for a good donor match and kidney transplant. This is mainly because of our change in lifestyle, not enough proper healthy food and bad habits.
Unfortunately the need for organ donor is much more higher than we actually have. Almost 17-20 people die everyday because of the shortage of organ donors. The situation gets more worst when people start to buy the organs or conduct any illegal activities. This is an extreme crime and government implemented strict rules and fines against my such activities. Growing up, I have seen many recipients and the families of organ donors on TV.
Here back in India,, I would like to talk about one of my uncle who has donated his one kidney to his wife. After 23 years of marriage my aunt started having some medical issues and later she was diagnosed with kidney disease and she put on dialysis. After sometime it became a challenge to travel with a dialysis machine and bags to last the duration of the trip. To avoid the heart problems caused by long term dialysis, my aunt would need a kidney donor.
At first, it didn’t occur to my uncle to get tested to see if he could be a match. He thought organ donors and recipients had to be blood relatives. With more research, he realized that a recipient and donor could match even if they aren’t blood relatives. He got tested and the results revealed what he had hoped for: he was a match for his wife. Ultimately, both operations were a success and my aunt is doing very well now even without dialysis. In conclusion, I really hope I have summarize what is organ donation and how you can save another person’s life by donating your organ. Even after we die, we can still chooses to donate our eyes to someone in need and can give sight to a person who has never seen a sunrise, or beauty of the creature.
